2026 season
Thoughtful pairings, quality progeny
Every pairing at Thistledown is made with a clear purpose. We consider fleece data, conformation, colour genetics, and bloodline compatibility before any mating decision is made. We do not rush the process and we do not overuse our stud males.
2026 Planned Pairings

Sage is our most consistent producer and Aurelius is our most consistent sire -- this is a pairing built on reliability. Both animals have proven themselves year on year and we expect a light to medium fawn cria with strong fleece density and good staple length. Sage has thrown excellent progeny to Aurelius before, so this is a cross we return to with confidence.

Lumen is our finest-fleeced female at 17.8µ, and pairing her with Merrow introduces a colour question we find genuinely interesting. Merrow's medium fawn over Lumen's white background could produce anywhere from a light fawn to a white cria, depending on the genetics at play. What we are confident about is the fleece -- both animals have excellent crimp definition and Lumen's proven fineness gives this pairing a strong foundation. A cria that combines her micron with Merrow's density and warmth would be exactly what we are looking for.

Willa is a full sister to Sage but tracking finer at the same age, which makes this pairing with Merrow particularly interesting. Where Sage x Aurelius is a proven cross we return to with confidence, Willa x Merrow is more exploratory -- we are curious to see whether Merrow's warmth and density combines with Willa's improving micron to produce something exceptional. A light to medium fawn cria is most likely from this cross, and we will be watching the first clip closely.

Calla is our most exciting young female and this is her first mating. She carries Ridgeline Magnus on her sire line, the same as Aurelius, which makes Merrow the natural choice to avoid doubling up on that bloodline. Merrow's medium fawn over Calla's white background is a cross we expect to produce a light fawn cria, and Calla's exceptional first fleece gives us real confidence in what this pairing can produce. We are watching this one closely.

Dusk is the newest female in the herd and this is her first mating. She shares sire and dam with Petra, our heaviest clipper, so the fleece weight potential is already there. Pairing her with Aurelius brings his fineness into the picture -- the same logic as Petra x Aurelius, but with a younger female whose clip is still developing. We are expecting a medium fawn cria and a first fleece that tells us a lot about where Dusk is heading as a producer.

Rime is our rose grey and one of the most visually striking animals in the herd. Pairing her with Aurelius is a colour genetics decision as much as a fleece decision -- Aurelius carries white and fawn lines deep in his pedigree, and introducing that over Rime's rose grey background opens up the possibility of a light grey or unusual fawn cria with excellent fleece credentials. Aurelius's proven fineness is the anchor here. Whatever colour comes through, we expect the fleece quality to be strong.
Whether you are interested in a stud mating, purchasing an animal, or simply want to talk genetics, we would love to hear from you.
